I don’t know about the rest of you but I grew up with penny loafers. My mom and aunts all wore them and even my brother wore them when he went to Catholic school. The shoe itself is versatile and wearable for both men and women. […]
Oops! I’m not going to lie I forgot what day it was. I took some time out this weekend and stepped away from the blog/social media. I really just needed some space to reflect and center my thoughts. Even though I love Happily In Style and all my website brings to my like sometimes stepping away even for just a weekend can be refreshing. As of Sunday night I was feeling well rested and ready to get back to it, a little time away was just want I needed. Only problem was since I took the weekend off I constantly keep thinking it is the weekend. (isn’t that just the worst!!) Plus I was so focused on sharing my new JORD campaign with everyone (Giveaway can be found here) that my regular blog schedule fell to the waist side. Even worse, I got food poisoning yesterday which really threw me for a loop. So it wasn’t till this morning when I was finally feeling better that I realized I would be publishing my, “Hello Monday!” post on a Wednesday! So while it certainly isn’t Monday I’m still going to give a big HELLO to good ole’ Monday and the week! It may have been a rocky start but I’m ready for the week and the warmer spring weather!
I loved last Monday’s post so m much and from the numbers it seemed like everyone out there did as well. So I’m keeping with that trend and discussing a new trend I’m loving and seeing everywhere. The trend I’m discussing? Platform shoes, not just any platform shoe, the wooden platform Oxford. I’m a big fan of Oxford shoes and am constantly buying them for my husband. There’s something about seeing a man pair Oxford shoes with dark denim and a nice button that I just love. They can complete any men’s wear look and now you can find them in a platform version for women (#winning)
This new twist on a classic men’s piece embodies everything fun and flirty about spring and in my opinion they’re a “must-have” for anyones spring wardrobe. The question is can I pull these babies off? I desperately want to test a pair out but I’m nervous. You’ll just have to wait and see if I take the plunge into this trend or not! Until then check out a few of my favorite styles as inspiration for your own spring wardrobe! Happy Monday….I meannn, Wednesday, Happy Wednesday ?
The other day temperatures reached an all time high, well at least for me they did. I’m in the third trimester of my second pregnancy and oh boy are these pregnancy symptoms coming out of the woodwork. All day yesterday I was fanning myself and staying hydrated, I was definitely having a hot flash or too. I’ve always said that my second trimester was the BEST time every during my first pregnancy and it’s safe to say that the second time around was no different. Theres just something about it, you’re not too big yet you don’t really have symptoms as much as you did while adjusting in the beginning or near the end when your body is doing the prep work for delivery. It’s just a nice slice of time where everything stands still and you get to just enjoy the baby bump and food cravings. Sadly I’m not longer living that beautiful dream anymore. Don’t get me wrong the third trimester isn’t bad its just different. Things are getting real and the time seems to fly by more rapidly than in the beginning. Things I felt I had months to do are dwindling down to weeks and soon it will be days. Ahhh!!!
In the mean time I’ve stopped all maternity purchases I’m good I’ve only got ten weeks left so I’m going to “make do” with what I have and keep it simple. Today’s is another non-bump purchases, I wore a draped BCBG Maxazria skirt. I love the color of this skirt it reminds me of a blue lagoon or deep periwinkle tone which is great for accentuating a tan. I kept it simple on top and just paired it with a white tank. I threw on a BCBG Generation blouse over it to complete the look with add a little extra pop. The blouse used to zip up but well that’s not happening any time soon so I’m keeping it in rotation as a cover up. I kept my make up light and my hair half up half down for a simple sleek look. Near the end of pregnancy I try to keep everything simple, throw on and go is my motto. You may not always get as stylish of a look as you’re after but remember you are going through the miracle of pregnancy. It doesn’t always feel like a miracle but anything amazing isn’t going to come that easy. So just be confident and remember you are BEAUTIFUL!
Tuesday is my Monday and I love it! I get two days off with my lovely son Gunnar and we have so much fun together. I must say though by Monday night aka my Sunday night I am ready to go back to work. Work can sometimes feel a little like a vacation to the mother of an almost 2-year-old. Just being in the cool air conditioning, listen to music and peacefully sit at my desk is a nice change from running around after my love.
I knew today would be a busy one between a hectic work week and getting ready for my bachelorette trip so I opted for something more casual that I could easily transition if need be. Once done work I get to go home to my family. So for me having a look that can be changed with a quick tweak is a must! That is why today’s look is a classic. Denim and a fresh tee have always been a staple in my closet they are my go to when the week gets hectic.
Today I choose to layer with a bold patterned jacket from BCBG Maxazria and a flowy neutral tee from Free People. Personally I love ripped denim but it isn’t always a work approved look. That’s when I found Genetic Denim’s slouchy boyfriend denim. This pant gives me the look of a ripped denim without actually being ripped by replacing the wholes with darker denim patches.
Now lets talk about the wedges, don’t let them fool you! While I have a love for heels and shoes in general just like any other woman out there, I have one problem. I can’t wear them for more than a few hours and I bring flats with me everywhere I go. I start the day feeling like, “Today is the day, I am going to last all day in these beauties!”. Well by noon I raise the white flag and run for my flats! If you are like me then I suggest a wedge. They can give you a little more balance and support for your feet or in my case my ankles. That is what I love about this look. By pairing different shoes, jewelry, etc with it can totally change the look. You can make it a little more casual or vice versa. No matter where you are in life, todays lifestyle calls for versatility and flexibility. You never know whats going to happen or where your day going to lead. Staples like these can make the day just a little easier; while still making you feel like that powerhouse that you are!
