Maxi dresses are something I usually avoid during pregnancy because generally they make me feel like I look bigger than I am. I have broad shoulders and a long torso so maxis aren’t as flattering for my figure. Don’t get me wrong they are a great maternity piece for most because they provide coverage where it is need while still keeping us mamas cool and comfortable in the summer heat. Let’s face it maxi dresses are a pregnancy staple whether they look good on me or not. So if I really want to go for that look I have to stay away from the traditional maxi and go with either a midi or something unusually at the bottom.
Today I went for it, with a patterned midi with a handkerchief hemline from Lily Pulitzer. You can find a similar style on their websites. Because I am 7.5 months pregnant I have to be careful with the colors and patterns I work with. A bold larger print is more flattering and would work perfectly with the first day of summer. The smaller the print the bigger you end up looking. If you end up with a smaller print you’re just dying to wear balance it out with a solid. Maybe try a sheer summer scarf or cardigan to mix it up. For my body type stripes of any kind are a no no right now. I’ve passed the stage of cuteness with them but if you are more petite it might be fun to try something with stripes and pairing that with a bold color, like orange or pink to keep it fresh.
I love this dress mainly because it has a great balance of color. The base color of the dress of it is navy blue but the starfish/floral pattern on it adds a nice splash of hot pink and orange to really bring it all together. This is one of my favorite dresses not only because of the print but also because of its ability to go from a casual day time piece to perfect for a nice date night in the city, depending on accessories. Today I dressed it down with a pair of jeweled sandals from DSW. To spice it up I would mix it up with a simple nude heel. You don’t need to work hard to make this look stand out, so keep it simple with jewelry and hair.
We’ve reached 31 weeks and Bodhi is the size of a coconut and oh boy is he moving. He isn’t as active at Gunnar was in womb but I don’t think any baby can compete with my little monkey. I mean right now he is running from the living room to the kitchen just because. So, yea I think no matter how Bodhi turns out he will still be a change form Gunnie bear. Now that Bodhi is more developed I can start to kind of get a sense of what his personality might be like. This is crunch time with less than 10 weeks left to go we have a lot to do! From hospital bag essentials and nursery set up to food prep for postpartum I’ve got a lot on my plate. With everything coming to a head I’m getting so excited to finally meet him and see what my little boy looks like and what he’s personality will be like. I’m definitely counting down the weeks in anticipation for the big day!
Through out my pregnancy I’d wished I had the time to take a photo of my bump every month. (No, outfit of the day photos don’t count) I always wanted to have a plan backdrop and the same shirt on every photo with a new fruit or veggie for the size of our growing little one in hand. But it just hasn’t worked out that way yet! (Baby number 3 perhaps?!) So I’ve come up with something special I can do to make this pregnancy special for Bodhi and I. From wives tales to my gut instinct I’m going to put together a little list of what I think he will be like and compare once our little Bodhi bear has arrived!
LOTS of Heartburn: So this is an old wives tales that the more heart burn you have the more hair the baby has, well that was so true with Gunnie. He came out with a head full of hair and never lost it.
Mild of Kicking: I feel like Bodhi might be a less active baby, of course no baby is truly calm but I’m again comparing to my lovely first-born Gunnie, who was and still is my favorite little monkey jumping around and touching EVERYTHING. The second he came out he was ready to live life to its fullest.
I’m super emotional: I started crying at the drop of a hat with this pregnancy, now I know old wives tales say that means it’s a girl but two ultrasounds say otherwise. With Gunnar I wasn’t emotional at all I was besides him constantly resting on my spine my entire pregnancy was smooth. But I still have a few thoughts on the emotional rollercoaster I’ve been on. With Gunnie no emotions= a more emotionally child, with Bodhi LOTS of emotions and tears and all of it= a more chill child. Haha it isn’t science but that’s my prediction or maybe its just a hope either way we shall see!!
My imagination: I keep imagining a green eyed sandy brown hair baby. With Gunnar I kept having the same dream of me holding a little baby boy with dark hair and large dark eyes and that exactly what I got. So we shall see if my dreams are really telling me something or if it’s just wishful thinking!
So their you have it that’s my little list: Mucho hair, very chill, green eyed babe named Bodhi…or Oliver. Yes, I’m still kinda undecided guess we will have to wait and see on all accounts!
We bought a house!!! We finally found the right home for us and we took the plunge. It wasn’t an easy process but it was totally worth it! Now it’s time to get decorating and I’ve done some research. With a new home comes of course a greater responsibility and more budgeting so I want the colors and theme of our home to be something neutral that will last awhile even with the change in styles. Of course a little pop of color here and there is always good but I’m not going to go over board. I love to change it up a little for each season so I know the basis of our interior has to be neutral so I can throw pumpkins, holly, etc when I’m feeling festive. Decorating an entire home I’ve found can be extremely difficult, there are so many styles and color schemes to choose from sometimes it can get a little out of hand.
Get Visual: I suggest doing lots of recon first and taking as many pictures as you can. In the beginning I like to wander around each store and just pick out things I like. They don’t have to have a set theme or color scheme I’m just looking for things that catches my eye. This is just the free period of decorating where I don’t have to keep myself tied down to one theme.
Go Everywhere: Leave the kids with a sitter or Dad, if he doesn’t want to be involved in the design aspects and go to HomeGoods, T.J.Maxx, Target, Restoration Hardware, Pottery Barn heck go to all of them. You can never have too much inspiration. This is the beginning of it all so it isn’t about sticking to a common style, it’s about finding your style. Be free and fluid when walking through stores you never know where you’ll end up. I swore I would NEVER go with anything remotely close to a Persian rug but what kind of rug will we be using in our master bedroom, yea a Persian rug. ? You really never know what you’ll end up with, some things just work the second you look at them and certain styles you might have always used as your go-to just DON’T anymore.
Shop Around: So, you’ve finally reached the point where you’ve locked down your themes/color schemes, but don’t be so quick to buy. Go online, see if any of the stores you’ve shopped in have a sale going on or maybe check Overstock or Wayfair to see if you can find something similar for less. Whether you’ve bought a new home or your just looking to do a little redecorating, most of us have some number in our heads. The number we don’t want to go over aka a lovely budget! So it’s good to search the web for deals. One way to save that has never failed me before is signing up for their newsletters. When you sign up to receive a stores emails you usually get a sweet little 15% off code that comes with it. I’ve literally created a spare email account for all the newsletters/codes from different brands. I wait till I know there’s a really good online sale and then I add myself to their email list, it’s a quick easy way to get a nice little extra percentage off.
Out with the Old: At first when my husband and I moved in together it took a little time for us to get adjusted to each others lifestyles. I am a hoarder and he is a minimalist, so we quickly had to set up ground rules to keep everything peachy keen. One of his rules which we still stick to was, “For every new item you bring in another old one must go out” At first I wasn’t a fan of this one, I’m a Taurus we just love stuff. It took some time to adjust but it truly is the best thing he could have ever made me stick to. As our son gets older I can actually see how excited he gets to clean and have an organized space around him (he gets it from his father NOT his mama) So I’m happy to oblige!!!
At the moment we are in the beginning phases of decorating and setting up our home. I’ve done my homework and taken a million photos (some of which I’m sharing below) and eventually we will have it all together. I can’t wait to decorate the boys rooms but for now I’ll just have to focus on getting us packed up and purging all of our old stuff so I can bring in all the new goodies I’ve picked out?. This is such an exciting time for our little family and I can’t wait to see where it takes us.
