Style Guide: Budgeting with a Bump

Style Guide: Budgeting with a Bump

Lately I’m trying my hardest to get as much wear out of my non-bump buys as possible. With so many new expenses coming up I’m really trying to budget. Ohh budgeting so much fun I know but until Gunnie gets this whole pott16331ac6cc5e102b4ad822b94a492d5ay training thing down I’m preparing to have two little ones in diapers come August. So budget I must! Even if I do spend I’m trying to make them non-bump purchases I know I’ll be able to rock once our little Bodhi is out and about. For me Budgeting can be easy because I spend way to much money on everything. I’m a Taurus so if you know anything about the signs you know we love the luxuries in life. With that said I’m trying to change my ways and really appreciate what I have and do more with less!

I’ve done my do-diligence and Pinterest/Googled away on budgeting and how to get the most bang for your buck. So in the coming month get ready to see a different Meghan. From food budgets to cutting out certain luxuries I’m ready to be a money saving machine.

This morning I went to throw own a pre bump button down dresses from BCBG, soon after buttoning the last button I realized it wasn’t going t
o work. Bodhi and my belly had grown since the last I’d worn it. What once was a dress now fit like a shirt. I really had my heart set on that dress so I was a little
disappointed. We’ve all been there you actually have some vague idea on what you’re in the mood to wear you know it makes you feel great and you can’t wait to put it on. Then BAM! Either theres a stain or a ripe or maybe a growing baby bump that gets in your way of feeling all the feelings!

I decided to take what at first I felt was a negative and turn it into a positive! Since my dress now fit like a shirt I decided to turn it into a shirt. I paired it with a more classic white tee and jeans, added some booties and I was back to feeling stylish, happy and of course budget approved!!

Think Spring!

Think Spring!

Okay so if you live in the Northeast you might have woken up to some  unwanted flurries floating around outside. Well, this mama has HAD it! I’m done I can’t handle anymore of the cold. I’m a good Northeastern girl so I do love colder […]

Old Wives Tale or Fact?

Old Wives Tale or Fact?

So I’ve reached my 22  week mark and its been a nice experience so far. A little stressful with a toddler running around but I went into this second pregnancy knowing full well that was going to be one of my main stressors. I’ve even been surprised […]

Trusting The Pros: Steak-Stuffed Garlic Bread

Trusting The Pros: Steak-Stuffed Garlic Bread

Okay so this one I cannot take creIMG_1628dit for but I have to talk about it. Sam found this one on a Facebook account appropriately named Tasty. ( Click the link for more deliciousness)

Last night I was having some extreme cravings. Normally I don’t crave red meat at all. I grew up with my dad making filet every Sunday night so when I entered into adulthood I had really had enough. That is until of course last night when I was going crazy for it. I had all these crazy weird recipes in my head. Some or okay maybe most of which were horrible. I was trying to come up with someone different and at least a little healthy. At the same time like I said they were horrible I was having an off night and not feeling well. Thankfully my husband stopped me from forcing myself to muster on and showed me this video of Steak-Stuffed Garlic Bread at that point I my friends was done. I literally stared at the screen in awe of the amazing and weirdly calming videIMG_1629o of this guy stuffing steak into bread. (Is that weird?)

I have not yet attempted to change this recipe at all and make it more health conscious, for the moment I am simply just going to savor its deliciousness and enjoy. I did change a few things personally because certain products I don’t use or didn’t have. Also please don’t judge the photos. I took these so quickly because I wasn’t waiting a minute longer before I devoured it.Resized_20160403_214545

Either way here is our version of the meal and I must say it may for our first test run I don’t think we did too bad at all. It was absolutely delicious and I’m not ashamed to say I ate the entire thing. Sometimes it’s really nice to be able to just sit down and let Sam take over the meal prep. Sometimes I get so wrapped up in making sure everyone is eating healthy they I don’t stop and think, “Hey, maybe it’s time to feed the soul!” Thankfully hubby was able to remind me of that!

I’m putting the Ingredients below but I suggest you click this link. It’s really so easy and again weirdly soothing to watch. ENJOY!

Ingredients (I changed a few things depending on what we use when cooking. It still tasted damn near perfect!)
3 tablespoons canola oil ( We used extra virgin olive oil)
1 pound rib eye steak
¾ tablespoon Kosher Salt (We used Himalayan salt)
½ tablespoon freshly ground black pepper
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
2 sprigs rosemary (We did away with this one and added 2 teaspoons of onion powder)
2 cloves garlic, smashed
1 baguette
4 tablespoons melted butter
2 tablespoons chopped garlic
2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
2 tablespoons finely chopped parsley (We didn’t use any of that.)

Preparation:
Preheat oven to 350°F.
Slice the steak in half lengthwise then season all of the sides with the salt and pepper.
Heat oil in a pan over extremely high heat until oil is slightly smoking.
Sear the steak for about one minute, then flip. Add the butter, rosemary, and garlic, swirling the pan so that the butter melts. Tilt the pan towards you, and using a large spoon, constantly scoop the melted butter on top of the steak, basting it for about one minute. This helps cook the top of the steak faster and provide more flavor. Sear the sides of the steak for about 30 seconds, then remove it from heat completely. Repeat with the other strip of steak.
Cut the ends off the baguette and remove the insides using a knife. Once the steaks are completely cool, stuff the hollowed out baguettes with the steak. Place the baguettes on a baking sheet.
In a medium bowl, combine the melted butter, garlic, Parmesan, and parsley, stirring until evenly combined. Spread the garlic butter evenly on top of the steak-stuffed baguettes. Bake for 15-20 minutes, depending on how you like your steak.
Slices into one inch bites and serve!

I’m Pregnant, NOT “Preggos”

I’m Pregnant, NOT “Preggos”

I know this is going to sound silly but I cannot STAND the terms “preggo” or “preggers” . In the beginning of my pregnancy I tried to embrace it because I know it is a term used by a lot of people. I see women […]

Keeping the Bump Comfy

Keeping the Bump Comfy

So lately I’m feeling pretty big in the stomach area. I’m not complaining but it has made clothing a little hard to figure out. I’m still not fitting perfectly into my maternity jeans and I’m coming to the realization that at the moment I am in between maternity sizes. So it’s getting a little confusing. Unfortunately the weather is still just a little too chilly out to rock a dress in so I’m a little stuck. I have all these fun summer outfits I’ve put together in my head yet the weather and my feet just aren’t cooperating.

At first I was feeling really bummed about the fact that I can’t have fun with my wardrobe. I would sit in my room and just stare at certain items thinking, “I wish!” With work and sensitive pregnancy feet its hard to get dressed in the morning. I’m sure all my mamas out there know what I’m talking about. Some my feet are swollen and aren’t feeling like perfection. Especially when it comes to working. The other day I tried to wear a gorgeous pair of flats from J.crew, well that lasted about 20 minutes until I was hobbling my way to the car in search of some relief in the form of a sneaker. Until I can just throw on a pair of sandals and go I’m stuck in my tennis shoes and chucks. But I’ve come to terms with that and for the time being I’m going to just stick with leggings, tees and a nice pair of sneaks.

Rules to keeping the bump comfy

  1. Stretch: always go with something that gives you that little extra stretch. From leggings to a stretch pair of skinny jeans if it gives you room to move and you are comfortable in it that go with it!
  2. Pops of Color: Sometimes comfort can feel boring and leave you wanting more. Picking colors that make you feel pretty and confident can be a nice way to make you feel great not only physically but mentally.
  3. Accessorize: When it comes to comfortable fashion you want to make sure you rock the right accessories. If you’re rocking a comfortable but nice button up it can be cool to mix in a chunky short statement piece necklace but if you’ve gone with something basic like a tee go with a longer pendant or chain necklace. You want to keep your look balanced and you don’t want to look like you tried to hard.
  4. Less is More: Thanks to Coco Chanel I don’t have to say much on this one. I will leave you with one of my favorite Coco Chanel quotes that has always done me right! “Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take one thing off.”

Which brings me to todays look. It was a little touch and go this morning with some earlier rain showers. I decided my Saturday would be best spent in something simple and comfortable. I went with my most worn in pair of Keds and my favorite comfy cardigan (Thank you Gap) I decided to go with a pink tees today in honor of spring! I threw on one of my favorite longer statement pieces from Spartina and I was good to go!
