It’s a beautiful day here in the Northeast, finally the rain has passed and we are seeing a little warmth. I no longer pray for the warmer climate to stay instead this mama will just be enjoying it while it lasts. With all the fluctuation in […]
Month: March 2016
Another lovely Saturday morning in the burbs! So far this warmer weather have chosen to stick around a bit longer. Which means I’ll be soaking up as much time outdoors as possible! This weekend we are hosting a little BBQ with some of our close friends and after work today I’m hoping it will still be just warm enough to fit outside with a glass of sweet tea and just chill. For now I’ll just gaze off into the distant and think about all the possibilities this weekend has in store for us! We’ve already gotten as much outdoor time as possible yesterday so I’m hope we can keep the theme alive for the entire weekend!
Normally on Fridays Gunnar and do some morning activities get dressed and head to the farmers market. Well, this Friday was very different from the norm! This Friday we had daddy with us for the day! Gunnar and I were both very excited about it. Sam works A LOT, so sometimes it’s really hard to get quality family time in. Which is why when we can get it in I jump at chance! So that’s exactly what we did.
We started out with some morning family leisurely time and eventually put ourselves together and were off to the farmers market. Now, on a normal farmers market day Gunnar and I just walk around and look. It can be difficult to buy anything with a two-year old trying to run away from you every other minute so purchasing isn’t always an option. Luckily my mom always shops at the farmers market on Saturday, so when he is in one of his moods I can easily just take a quick inventory of what I’m looking for and pass the information on to her. Moms, they truly are life savers ?
But like I said this Friday was different! Sam was there to intercept all the tantrums and escape attempts. While we had a few bumps and run aways Sam was great caught him every time. Eventually, Gunnar gave up the escape attempts and we were finally able to actually taken in what new produce the fruit and veggie stand might have. Our farmers market has so much to offer it’s hard to not buy everything. All the different stands have so much to offer. Some might say the BBQ or candy stand were the best, while those stands are all fine and dandy this mama is in love with the mediterranean food stand! It’s my favorite area in the entire farmers market. For me there’s nothing like a good gyro to commemorate the day.
While the boys were taking inventory of all the different juices (Sam and Gunnar are juice addicts) I decided to sneak away real quick to see what my favorite stand had to offer. To my surprise there was one of my favorite treats! It probably had been there the entire time but I never had the luxury of noticing. HALVA!! The delicious tahini based sesame confection that I adore so much! Not only did they have it but they had it in a couple different flavors. I decided to go with the marble because that’s my go to. Next week I will definitely be trying the pistachio. If you haven’t had halva I suggest you give it a try. I shave pieces off and sprinkle it over my morning fruit! It adds just that little touch of sweetness with a little more consistency. So, after a day of strolling around town I decided a little morning treat was totally in order. Today I had it with grapefruit and oh was it amazing.
It was so nice to have some quality family time, not only did I stumble upon my favorite sweet treat but we create some amazing memories. I’m hoping we get another Friday like this past Friday soon, days like yesterday are really what life is all about. All the hard work we put into everyday has to mean something. If you don’t get a day to yourself then really there’s just no point! So whatever your family has planned for the weekend make sure to make a little extra time to just have fun! We all live busy lives so taking a moment to enjoy each other can really just be the cherry on top of your weekend sundae! So, don’t forget to stop and smell the roses as they say or in my case the halva! I hope you all have an amazing day and build a life time of memories for you and your little ones at the same time.
Okay so if you live in the Northeast you might have woken up to come up wanted flurries floating around outside. Well, this mama has HAD it! I’m done I can’t handle anymore of the cold. I’m a good Northeastern girl so I do love my colder climates but now I’m very welcoming and super ready for the change. Next weeks weather forecast is looking pretty fantastic. I cannot tell you how excited I am for this. With the warmer weather on its way I started to look through my summer maternity wardrobe. I couldn’t help but notice how I was significantly lacking. I felt it wouldn’t hurt to add a few pieces. So I turned to one of my absolute favorite clothing brands Pink Blush. Pregnant or not this is definitely a clothing brand to check out! That’s right, they cater to both pregnant women and women who aren’t expecting women! I’m so happy to have found a brand that I can continue to wear even after I am pregnant.
Today I felt the need for some floral it’s so grey and white outside. I thought maybe a little inspo might help mother nature get the ball rolling on the flowers and sunshine. I went with a flowy floral top that I turned into a dress. Remember ladies wear your floral and think spring! The quality of this piece is fantastic. I’m a textiles girl and when I find a place that cares about the fabric as much as I do, well I’ll admit I get a little giddy. The fabric on this piece is so soft and breathable. I feel so stylish without little effort which is great for any mama or working gal. We’ve all been there, you’re running late and you just need that perfect piece to throw on so you can get out of the door! Well, ladies I’ve done the work for you I suggest you start shopping at Pinkblush. Not only to they have trendy maternity clothes and accessories but they also have great deals! Don’t believe me? Well check it out for yourself: Pinkblush
When it comes to sizing for this piece I went larger. Pink Blush Maternity is pretty awesome with there sizing. I often struggle with maternity clothing because the sizing it always off. But thankfully Pinkblush maternity is true to size! I knew going just a little bigger on this piece would turn this sweet floral top into a great flowy date night dress. ? I paired it with a sheer black stocking and short pewter booties, while yes I’m going to be channeling my inner spring goddess it’s still a little chilly out so this mama of course will stay weather appropriate! Come next week when the sun is shinning and it’s 70 degrees you will be seeing me rocking this baby stocking free with a pair of gladiator flats. From errands and lunch time with Gunnar to date night with the Hubs I’m definitely ready to go!
Whether you’re pregnant or not it is always important to surround yourself with positive vibes. With that said sometimes it can be extremely difficult to accomplish this when it feels like the universe has it out for you. Or at least that’s how I’ve been […]
I thought it would be a good idea to get started on Bodhi’s side of the room a little early. While summer might be a better time for a revamp on the boy’s room I might be out of commission by then so the earlier the better! With a new little boy comes a need for more space. We live in an adorable 2 bed room apartment with an amazing backyard. I know what you’re thinking 2 bedrooms and soon to be 4 people living in ONE house. I know we should probably start looking for a new home. While I’m not against the idea of a new house I’m also not jumping towards it. If something lands in our lap and the timing it right we will see but for now this mama is going to make the best out of the beautiful space we’ve been blessed with! While starting the revamp process for little Bodhi I’ve come up with a few important things to look at when deciding what to do with your baby’s space.
Look at your space: The best place to start when decorating your nursery is to first look at the space. For little Bodhi we are looking at a simple DIY closet adjustment. There are two sets of closets in Gunnar and Bodhi’s room so we will be turning the one into a built-in crib while still utilizing the other as Bodhi’s closet and storage space. Similar to the picture on your right. This will help give us the maximum amount of space for both boys to roam around while still being comfortable and safe for little Bodhi.
Theme: The theme of your nursery is always fun to place around with but it’s also very important. You want to pick something that can transition nicely when they go from those sweet baby stages to the bouncing toddlers. For Gunnar we went with a woodland theme that I will now be transforming into a camp fire theme! Thanks to the help of Target and their new AMAZING brand Pillowfort. But more on Gunnar’s room revamp later!!! For Bodhi theme I’ll admit at first I struggled. I didn’t want to make him have the same theme as Gunnar. While we haven’t met little Bodhi yet I’m sure he won’t be exactly like his big brother. I wanted to celebrate their individuality. While I was searching through all the amazing stuff Pillowfort had I found a stuffed animal shark head wall mount and fell in love. For Gunnar we did a stuffed animal moose head mount so I thought it would be a cute little tradition to start. From that a theme was born! Bodhi’s theme is tropical nautical. Lots of color and lots of POP!
Lighting: Such a simple idea but at the same time it can become very difficult to find the right lighting. With two boys in one room I was going to need to find the perfect lighting placement for those late night feeds, while still thinking about my slumbering two-year old. Originally I wanted to install a little hanging light over Bodhi’s crib but I thought the light might be a bit to bright in the little blueberry’s eyes so I’ve decided to go with LED Adhesive Tap Light. I grew up on the outskirts of our local town. It was very hilly and covered with trees. During the winter months we constantly lost power! These tap lights saved my life during those months. They are battery operated. To install them remove the paper from the back and stick the adhesive side above whatever surface you wish to light. It’s such a simple and easy change that can really brighten up your space without the added cost! Instead of putting them over head where the light will come down harsh I’ve decided to install them on the either sides of the closet frame to create a glow around us. This will make it a calm and soothing environment for those late nights with Bodhi.
***For anyone looking to brighten up a living room or kitchen space these guys are great when placed right on the edged of an entertainment center or on the lining of a couch they will create a glow without being seen. For the kitchen place them evenly spaced underneath your cabinets to give you that professional lighting look. ***
Personal Touches: Don’t forget to add your own personal touch to your babies room! I know scrolling through Pinterest is somewhat intimidating when you first start out. But remember a lot of those rooms are fluffed up for photos and house guests. I guarantee if you go to those nurseries now there’s a thing or two that’s been added. Your personal touches don’t have to be theme related. They just have to be symbolic for you and your journey with your little one! Personal touches can make a nursery really feel like tie the nursery together and make it feel like home for you and your baby. For Bodhi we choose a stuffed pineapple that reminds us of our honeymoon/babymoon to Hawaii. While we were there I was craving anything and everything pineapple so when I see it, it reminds me of Bodhi’s first officially trip! Eventually I will be adding little stuffed veggies and fruits for my little foodie baby. With this pregnancy Bodhi has definitely been craving more than the usual snickers bar, he’s my little foodie so the veggies and fruits are a must! Yes, they have nothing to do with the theme but they are meaningful and special too me.
Enjoy: Last and most important don’t forget to HAVE FUN!!!! No matter if this is your first, second or third baby always remember to enjoy it! Creating a space for your baby to come home to only really happens once for each of them. For me the first night at home is a memory burnt into my brain. It was both amazing and terrifying all at the same time. I remember watching Gunnar sleeping soundly surrounded by this woodland friends. It is such a peaceful memory one that brings me joy on some of my lowest days.
