We are finally carving pumpkins and getting the house ready for Gunnar’s 2nd birthday party as well as our fancy adult Halloween party 🙂 I’ve been spending the past couple weeks or more collecting ideas for decor and fun festive games. I found one idea that just […]
Month: October 2015
It’s almost 7pm which means it’s almost pumpkin carving time!! All month I’ve been indulging in Halloween themed activities but tonight will be a family occasion, maybe even a friend or two 😉 I can’t wait to celebrate this wonderful fall holiday and try to recreate a few of my favorite pins from Pinterest. With Gunnar’s birthday party being on the holiday I’ve done my due diligence when it comes to pinning. So, tonight is the night I am going to test them out!
This I know will be a messy but fun task especially with Gunnar involved. I knew this morning when I woke up that I would have to prep my attire for such an occasion. After all the little bean is almost two. While he has made amazing strides these past couple months he is still my little banshee and my little banshee loves to make a mess! I knew I would be going right from work to pick pumpkins so I had to a little fashionable for work while still ready for the Halloween mayhem that waited for me.
So of course I went to my favorite brand, Free People. I can’t help it! Not only do we carry them at the store but Free People has been my go to brand since middle school, we are kindred spirits. I will always and forever love me some flowy, fun Free People. So I went with one of their short sleeve flowy sweaters in a fun fall color. The short sleeves are a must when dealing with gooey pumpkin insides. I recreated my denim look from yesterday with a different pair of jeans mainly because it was comfortable and because I am still feeling bloated from my Charleston trip. (hehe) I was going to work with some boots but last Halloween I wore boots while pumpkin carving and pumpkin fell in there, it felt weird…NEVER again! Instead I went with a nude pair of BCBG flats, helpful for running around taking care of customers also tighter so no chance of pumpkin juice getting in. Now it’s just a waiting game, counting down the minutes till closing!!!
With the weather getting colder I can already feel my lips starting to chap. While I love the cold weather my skin and lips don’t. I’ve always struggled to find a good product that would help keep my skin feeling nourished without causing it to turn red. I have extremely sensitive skin, like to the point where normal skin care products like Aveeno and Neutrogena turn my otherwise pale irish glow into a red itchy bumpy mess. So through out trial and error I have found there isn’t a store-bought product out there that works for me.
Yes, you heard me right none of them work for me. My mother has even taken pity on me and allowed me to use her La Mer. Sadly, it didn’t work either same results….Red, itchy bumpy mess. So for years I struggled I’d found an Aveda product that I can use every other day but still during the winters I would struggle. It’s been year and I still hadn’t found anything I could use daily until recently that is. I have experiences a miracle, the miracle of coconut oil. Now I know everyone is talking about coconut oil now and it is very much trending; as it should be. Coconut oil from my experience is amazing I can use it multiple times a day and it always leaves my skin feeling as fresh as a newborns.
Over time I have added a few things into the mix. Sometimes I will make rose-water (recipe will be found in holistic living) and add that into my coconut oil. Options like raspberry seed oil or carrot seed oil are great add ons as well. Carrot seed oil is known for its anti-aging properties, while raspberry seed oil is a great anti-inflammatory so depending on your skin care needs you might be more interested in one or the other. For those ladies how their who love to get dolled up, I’ve found that adding a little lemon juice makes for a very refreshing make up remover. If you are going to try any of these ideas make sure you make a little first before you go all in. You never know how your skin is going to react and you don’t want to waste all that amazing coconut oil.
At first I was just applying it like you would with any other cream, with my fingers. Recently Kylie Jenner…yes I know I said her name. I personal don’t feel anyway about the Kardashian/Jenner clan but some of you might so please don’t judge. I can’t deny it clearly obvious beauty hack that even I LOVE! She applies her lotions with a make up brush. I know nothing really wow when I say it but it really is an amazing hack. Not only does it feel amazing like but it’s also a better way to apply your product. Our hands carry lots of oil and even germs. If you don’t believe me you should read this article by The Huffington Post. Another very great reason to use the brush is that its easier to apply and go. Coconut oil can feel a little greasy on your hands and it can get everywhere. My biggest problem before using a brush was that I always got it in my hair. Now thanks to this new beauty hack I don’t have to worry about that anymore. So, try this out if your feeling adventurous let me know what you think!
Between planing Gunnar’s 2nd birthday/fall activities for us to do as a family and of course wedding activities, it has been a little busy for us. Obviously I’ve realized no matter what until 11pm on January 9th our lives are pretty much going to constantly get busier and busier as we get closer. So, I’ve decided to stacked my wardrobe with easy pieces that can keep me comfortable, stylish and warm on these chilly days for the upcoming months. As all moms know this is a must but now my schedule is turning it into a non negotiable rule. It’s crunch time and everyday I wake up knowing I might have to attend an impromptu to meeting with my planner or wedding vendors so of course I would like to look my best. Not only that but I wanted to be able to run around pumpkin patches with Gunnar or go pick out our christmas tree while not looking like I’m too done up. Facing this dilemma of style I thought it was a good time to add a few new pieces to the fall/winter wardrobe.
I wanted to find options that were breathable but still weather appropriate. I had tried to add something new into my wardrobe a couple of weeks ago and it just didn’t work out. I bought my first turtleneck, I wore it once and then it just sat in my closet. So I got rid of it and thought that was the end of my exploration into the turtleneck. Then while searching through one of my favorite retail hubs The King of Prussia Mall..I found that same classic everywhere in every store. Normally when I think of turtle necks I think of my mom. But finally when I got to Free People I gave in and I decided to give the turtleneck another try. Well, I fell in love. Between Free People and Madewell I ended up leave the mall with 4 different styles of turtle neck. I went with a more slouchy neck instead of the more tight-fitting neck I was used to seeing. For my face shape and frame it just seemed to look better. This is one of the major reasons I love and loathe fashion, there really is something for everyone’s body type which is AMAZING! But, it can sometimes take a little extra time to find it and you have to be in that confident state of mind to truly be opened to new options.
